RAMPSI Builds Automation Recording System for U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to Capture Vatican Feed

R. A. M. Production Services, Inc. was contacted by the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to devise a way to record the Vatican satellite feeds during off-hours.  Several options were considered.  The USCCB finalized on Tools on Air’s Just:in recording software which is an innovative Apple Macintosh-based ingest solution that offers batch, scheduled and crash recording.

Built around an Apple Mac Mini Server with a Blackmagic Design’s Thunderbolt capable Intensity Extreme I/O device, the Just:in software provides for single or multi-camera video capture in both standard Apple QuickTime MOV and MXF (including Avid OP-Atom MXF) container formats.

During our bench tests, the system never dropped a scheduled record or chocked because of overloading the system.

Ther’es no overly sophisticated scheduling software to learn, as scheduled recording times for Junt:in are set in Apple’s calendar.  The USCCB is now able to record the morning feed from the Vatican with out anyone in the office being there to press the record button – since the feed is at 4:00am local time.
